Thurs May 25th:
Departure time 08:15am; minor complications with trailer load obliged us to undo cargo and remove 5 bags of crushed stone, which loosened the springs of trailer that popped back into regular position ( "pimping of trailer" ).
We arrived into LaTuque at approx 11:45 am. In LaTuque we obtained last minute necessities and supplies for our trip. Change flat tire on the trailer requiring us to return to Canadian Tire to buy a socket star. With much restrains we declined Manuelas cravings for PFC's fried chicken bucket. Thus, by sometime 2:00pm we embarked on our final trail of dirt road to Lac Eugene.
Along the way we stopped to eat our chicken luncheon, not that we had any other choice of either stopping or tolerating Manuelas' plea of starvation. It is here that we discovered starving misquitoes that made our lunch break most unpleasurable.
Arrival time at Lac Eugene was apprx 5pm. Thursday night was most pleasant due to great weather, no bugs, lots of rum&coke, 1.5 bottles of home made wine, a great meal and an excellent company of friends.
Friday May 26th, A day of work efficiency and relaxation. Wake up time was at apprx 08:30am. A monster breakfast of western omellettes. By 10:30am, the group was divided into two teams for the tasks of repairing shed foundation and inspection of blinds. Emmanuel and Nick volunteered for the repair of the royal suite`s roof and delivery of salt blocks to southern 3 blinds. Perry, Spiros and Tony addressed the concerns and repair of the shed foundation. Most importantly, we must give credit to Perry's mastermind invention of a new Hestra - a great addition to our camp. A late and well deserved lunch followed by a long afternoon nap that lasted from 3:30pm to 6:00pm...kimithikame san mosharia! Friday's menu consisted of moose meat, rice, vegetables and tomato salad.
Saturday May 27th: day break at around 04:30am, what a view, clear sky, sun slowly rising over the horizon producing a red/orange glow which beams echo over the surface of the lake, the cries of birds announcing the early morning call and a thin layer of fog covering the surface of the lake creating a mystical sense of the area. By 06:30am, a bright sun, no clouds in the air and for a change warm temperatures...tha mas fane ta kounoupia! Great mornings mean MEGA farmer's breakfast followed by sun tanning on the shores of Lac Eugene. Perry, Spiros and Tony departed at 10:30am for blinds and salt blocks. Scrapes were found at Tony's original blind which means that there's a moose travelling between Perry's and Spiro's blind. Great evening of feasting on filet mignon, drinking, smoking, great music, zebekies, Pettas drunken entertainment, great bonefire "I made fire!", Pettas assault on small spruce tree and for the grand finally Pettas endless reminitions of the Greek National Anthem - gamata!
Sunday May 28th - return to civilization but good things don't last for ever; the tailgate window shattered due to a flying stone 10kms away from the end of our dirt road trek. Upon arrival at LaTuque at around 1:30 we stopped for lunch at - can you guess? - the much awaited and craved Poulet Frit Kentucky!
Overall, a great trip of much needed R&R, great food, great company and great weather!
