Man what a trip!!!
It started early Saturday morning when Perry couldn't find his keys for the camp, finally after almost an hour of searching they were found.
Usual stop-off for breakfast at McDonald's at Berthierville. They did a nice upgrade to the McD's, very nice!
Just outside La Tuque, sudden heavy vibrations are felt. We look in back and the right tire of the trailer is completely blow off. We stop in front of a small farm where a man and his son help us change the tire. Thank goodness for the spare.
Pick up supplies at Roberval, head into the woods. About 1.5 hours into bush (just before the 10 km last road to lac Eugène) more vibrations are felt. We pull over over to look and see that the suspension leaf has broken completely causing the flair of the trailer to cut the tire in half. We decide to continue to drag the trailer to the lake, and ditch it there.
About 2km into the trail we come across the neighbours that are fixing the road (putting in new drain tubes into the road). The immediately offer assistance; we put all our materials in René Fortin's pickup and using the pepin the put our trailer into our neighbour's trailer so that they can bring back to La Tuque.
Get to the dock and start unloading. F#&$ing salt block falls on Perry's foot (massive pain)! Boat motor wouldn't start, plugs needed cleaning, they were full of gunk.
We finally get to the camp around 7pm and have supper, drinks and cigars. Early night.
Sunday morning 9am raining, we start scoping the area where we will setup John's filahtra. We find the location, it was quite high and steep getting there. We do 2 trips to bring all material from the dock to base of the hill. After that it is many long and tiring trips bring up all the material to the build sight. Did I mention it was raining?
Still raining and now we are sweating we are still bring up material, up the steep hill. Anyway, construction finally begins in the rain and sweat, memories of Tony's filahtra collapse are coming back...
Finally by 5pm all four walls are up, just missing a bit of wood for the roof. We head back to camp to drop Nick off to start cooking while Tony and Perry head back to finish the roof. All done by 6pm.
Head to Spiro and Perry's filahtres to drop off salt blocks. Spot moose steps near Spiro's filahtra. Perry's filahtra is suspiciously "blown over".
Head back for supper, but stop off at heighbours to see how much we owe them for the road work, and half way between the island and the dock, more vibrations, this time from the boat. We continue to the dock and inspect and find one of the fins of the propeller has broken off. Neighbours say we owe $100, Perry gives $150 (still a damn good price!)
Having an amazing supper and plenty of beer, lights out early, everyone too tired.
Monday morning finally looks like a nice day, and we are leaving. We take the dirt road directly to La Tuque coming back, saves about 1 hour.
